Well, there are several possibilities. Like me, you could strike out in a totally new area as a freelancer. I simply learned how to form the proofreading marks, then marketed myself to several publishers, and ended up working with a few clients on a regular basis. I still work for 2 publishers and enjoy doing so. There are many possibilities for freelancing depending on your background and skills. This could definitely lead to success for you in a field you enjoy. One good place to check for freelancing assignments is at Sologig. Another site to check is Freelance Switch. Of course, you can always use Google to find more specific sites. For example, if you’re an accountant, try googling “freelance + accountant”.
You could also see if you can get a full- or part-time telecommuting job. Does your company offer telecommuting positions or would they be willing to begin to institute such positions? Good places to check for these opportunities are through: Simply Hired, Indeed, and Career Builder. Try different types of searches such as “telecommute”, “telecommuting”, “part-time telecommuting”, etc. I would be wary of typing in “work at home”, “work from home”, and related searches. You’re likely to get listings that will be of little to no value for you. I would stick with established companies that you’ve heard of to avoid getting scammed. It’s also wise to check with the Better Business Bureau to see if there have been any complaints against the company you’re interested in. I was able to find my part-time medical transciptionist job online using a job board. I think I used Monster at the time. I now prefer Indeed or Simply Hired.
Other possibilities for working from home include:
- Building a money-making themed website.
- Becoming an affiliate for high-quality products and/or services.
- Marketing Clickbank products.
- Opening an e-Bay business and e-Bay store.
- Developing and marketing your own products–especially if you focus on digital products.
Each of these possibilities warrants it’s own discussion and I’ll be covering them in the days to come.
