I’ve been interested in real estate for several years now. I even went so far as to get a real estate license years ago while living in North Carolina. I was taking some real estate courses at the local junior college for my own enjoyment and when I completed them decided to see if I could pass the real estate exam. I did, but soon left the state and never worked as an agent.
Over the years I’ve read many, many books about real estate but never took any action on that knowledge. All of that changed about a year after we moved to Colorado. My husband finally took an interest in investing in real estate, and we’ve acquired two properties in less than a year. So far, we’re enjoying our entry into real estate investing.
One of the most important things I’ve done this year is get involved with my local real estate investing club. I highly recommend you do the same if you’re considering investing or are already an investor. You’ll find a lot of support there from fellow investors. Just be sure you stick with the positive, active investors so you can learn and grow as an investor.
Hubby and I are continuing to learn and to stretch ourselves. Our first property is a single family home that needed a lot of TLC. We have wonderful tenants and are enjoying owning that property. Our second investment was a very interesting one in that we purchased a 4-plex at a trustee’s auction. It felt unique turning over a check for a large sum of money and receiving nothing but a cash receipt in return. The deed didn’t arrive for another month (gulp!). We partnered with a couple of other people on that project, have finished rehabbing it, are renting it out, and agreed ahead of time to flip it for cash to move into another property. Our next goal is to purchase a small apartment building.
My recommendation for you if you’ve been thinking about real estate is to take action. I read about and thought about real estate for years–and wasted a lot of time in the process. Begin today. Take action today. You won’t regret it.
Blessings,
Cindy

I can’t lay claim to that wonderful statement, it’s attributed to Sir Francis Bacon (1561-1626). I do, however, fully agree. Those who are knowledgeable in a specific area indeed have the power over those who don’t.
For example, someone purchasing their first home most likely doesn’t have a whole lot of knowledge about how the process works. They may not even have a lot of knowledge about the town they’ll be buying in. Instead, they’ll have to rely on the knowledge their real estate agent, mortgage broker, insurance advisor, and the title company personnel bring to the transaction. The combined knowledge of the team is what gives the individual the power to complete that real estate purchase.
The good news is you don’t have to be an expert at everything in order to wield power. The bad news is you have to be careful who you have advising you. You must have the ability to surround yourself with a skilled team composed of trustworthy people. Sometimes, that’s easier said than done. Seek out recommendations for professionals you need to have on your team, whether you’re wanting to start a business, change careers, buy a house, or attain any other goal you desire.
How will you develop your knowledge and your power today? In which direction do you wish to move? What do you want to accomplish? Remember, you don’t have to know everything before you begin to take action but you must have a team around you who can augment your knowledge.
“Power is the faculty or capacity to act, the strength and potency to accomplish something. It is the vital energy to make choices and decisions. It also includes the capacity to overcome deeply embedded habits and to cultivate higher, more effective ones.” George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950)

But I Don’t Want to Exercise Today
(Tune Your Inner Voice to “Whine” to Really
Catch theTone of This One)
Have you ever had a morning where either your body or your mind conspires against your good resolutions and tries to convince you that skipping your exercise “just this once” won’t hurt anything? Stop that whiner right in his/her tracks. I know from personal experience that if you just ignore that prompting and get started with your workout, that whining brat will shut up and leave you alone.
I’ve often wondered why my own mind and/or body would conspire against me and try to prevent me from doing something that’s so good for me? Is it so I can grow stronger through adversity, or is it simply that there is a very lazy side of me that begs for attention every now and then?
Who knows. All I know is that I have to ignore that urge and stick to my plan. And, that’s exactly what I had to do this morning. Guess what? It worked! I got my workout in, stuck to my plan, and have felt energized all day long. It was really worth that few moments of struggle this morning, so stick it out when that happens to you.

It Was Homeschool Skate Day at the Roller Rink
We went for skate day at the roller rink today and it was a pleasure to watch all those young people out on the floor just enjoying themselves. I marvelled in their energy and exurberance. I could almost feel myself flying around the rink at top speed with them. Then there were the two girls doing synchronized skate dance to the music–beautiful and graceful.
Watching all those young people, I remembered how important it is to really live in the moment. To savor each and every moment, relish them, really enjoy them in the now. Kids haven’t lived long enough to have a past to worry about and many are still too young to seriously begin worrying about their future either. They live in the now–an interesting perspective and a freeing one.
So what did my day at the rink teach me? That whether young, teenaged, middle-aged, or older, savor today. Use it well. What will you do with your day? What’s the best use of your time right now?
Now, go do it!
Blessings,
Cindy
